Daily Silver News: April 16 – Silver: Short-Term Fluctuations

Silver extends a consolidation after reversing from the $30 level on Friday.

The silver futures contract gained 2.40% on Monday, April 15, as it rebounded following its Friday’s intraday decline from a new medium-term high of $29.91. On Friday, silver rallied due to Middle East tensions and stronger U.S. dollar; however, later in the day, it sold off following gold prices retreat.

Today, silver is retracing some of its yesterday’s advance, extending a short-term consolidation, as we can see on the daily chart (the chart includes today’s intraday data):

The silver price is 1.2% lower, as it is trading below the $28.40 level. What about the other precious metals? Gold is 0.2% higher, platinum is 0.4% lower and palladium is 2.0% lower. So, the main precious metals’ prices are mixed again this morning.

Yesterday’s important Retail Sales release has been higher than expected at +0.7% m/m. Today we will get the Building Permits and Housing Starts numbers at 8:30 a.m. The markets will be also waiting for a speech from the Fed Chair Powell at 1:15 p.m.
